WHO IS SUPER 8 FOR?
What is Super 8?
Super 8 is teeny tiny film (8mm) that is loaded into a cartridge that holds 50 feet of it. As your videographer holds down the shutter button (just like on cameras and old film cameras) the light pours in through an opening allowing light to expose the strips of film Just like with film photographs, it is developed in a lab with chemicals and then scanned to become digital. It is basically thousands of little photographs capturing allll of the movement being recorded.
Who is Super 8 for?
Super 8 is a good fit for ANYONE who wants to capture moments in a way that a still photograph just can’t preserve. You can add super 8 to a proposal, pregnancy announcement, engagement shoot, etc. NOT JUST WEDDINGS! Imagine the two of you running around, laughing, stealing kisses, etc. allll living and breathing forever on film!
Why has it become so popular again?
This is my favorite (and most easily answered question) because it is simple. It is romantic and nostalgic, and not easily replicated. (Although companies HAVE tried to create super 8 digital cameras..) Super 8 captures your moments how you remember them. It’s like watching the memory play directly on the screen in front of you, and reliving it time and time again. It’s like watching your favorite rom-com for the 27th time. Super 8 captures the way your memories feel, and preserves them forever.
Why isn’t it cheap?
Super 8 IS an investment, but like anything worth having (and like my step dad would say) you get what you pay for. Super 8 isn’t as simple as recording something digitally. Your videographer has to purchase each roll of film, and it isn’t cheap. It can also be hard to find, and goes out of stock often. For us, we invested thousands of dollars into Kodak’s newest super 8 camera to ensure that our clients have reliable equipment for their super 8 to be captured on, but many videographers are still trying to make the best of their vintage super 8 cameras which can mean costly repairs and new purchases. In addition to this, even after your videographer has captured your video, they must pay for shipping and send it out for processing and scanning (which is an additional cost that isn’t very cheap!) So as you can see, before it makes it into your gallery your videographer has paid for film + equipment maintenance + shipping + processing + scanning! This all adds up VERY quickly, and is exactly why super 8 can be costly. It IS an investment, but it’s one of the best ones you can make.
